I've been on a mini-hiatus...stuff in life happens. It was an ordeal and I hope not to go there again any time soon...
ANYWAY! Rewinding a bit, so as I put in one of my past posts, I was thinking about going to the Renegade fair...only I am too much of a Potter fan to miss the movie on opening weekend. Afterall, I had just finished the 6th book two days before it opened. So I was pretty amped! I thought the movie was great even though they curiously changed a few things that make me wonder how they'll recover it in the last two movies. Then my sister and I had an HP marathon at home which took three days because they're all pretty long! The quote I can never forget and still chuckle over is from the first movie where Hermione goes, "It feels strange to be going home doesn't it?" and Harry goes, "No, not really..." It's only funny cuz it was quoted in the movie Yes Man, where they were also having an HP marathon. Good times.
Which brings me to my birthday present. Yes, I celebrated my 24th year on earth a few days ago. My present from my hubbie is supposed to be this:
The Harry Potter Gryffindor Hooded Cardigan from Hot Topic.
I was utterly and ferociously heartbroken when I checked online yesterday to get it, that they were sold out!!! I had looked last week and it was still there. So naive of me to think it'd still be there. Drat. My heart was so set to have this. Now what shall I have for my birthday? I was supposing I could make my own... So I had my mind set and was getting to work looking online to get the necessary supplies. And I must've clicked the item on the website so many times to study it very carefully, that there must've been some kind of glitch...! I was clicking the picture for the billionth time when I just happened to notice on the side bar that the words SOLD OUT had disappeared and in its place were the size Medium and quantity. I freaked out when I saw it and quickly added it to the cart and tried ordering it! Of course I didn't want to get my hopes up and knew there was a very real chance that it was really a glitch in the system and customer service would soon be notifying me telling me that they really were sold out on the hoodie and sorry for the inconvenience and da-da-da...So I was waiting all day anxiously for that email. When lo-and-behold, I did receive an email, only to say that it had shipped! A-MAZING!!! My heart sang!!! After I had finished ordering it, I went back to the item's page and there it still said it was SOLD OUT. What a fluke! And it's just my size too! I must've opened some magical portal by clicking it so many times. Maybe there was some Potter magic going on and I broke the charm!!! :) Perserverance my dear friends, as they say! Anyway, I just HAD to mention this because it's pretty exciting--to me anyway. But take heart for those who wanted this too, you CAN INDEED make your own! And I've already done all the homework!
I had filed away in my memory a long while ago that there was this hooded cardigan from Delia's that I had wanted--without the use of a Pensieve my friends! ;) Delia's is the best--I didn't have to stray too far!
It's the Blake Hooded Cardigan and I've included the link for you here! How very kind of me, yes I know... :)
Then there's this Gryffindor patch from SciFiGeeks. I would go with this one because it's the same looking one as the the cardigan from Hot Topic. However you can choose whichever's to your liking. It doesn't HAVE to be exactly like the one from Hot Topic. But being the perfectionist and slightly obsessive person that I am, I would want it to look as close to the original as possible.
For the plaid lining for the hoodie, you can just pick some of the fabric up at your local fabric store. As for the word Gryffindor on back, I was planning to make a stencil by printing some kind of Germanic/Goth font on heavy cardstock and cutting it out and spray painting it onto the cardigan. I love to use fonts from dafont.com. I mean, if you know how to screen print, all the power to you. But it's kind of nice that I didn't have to go through all that work, but I would have.
And for the lesser gift, but not any less cool, are these jeans from Alloy:
They're the Bubblegum Ankle Zip Stretch Skinny Jean. They're so fab-U!
My hubbie was pretty relieved that he only had to spend $60 on my birthday gift this year. Hahaha. Then my family and I went to the beach as apart of my birthday weekend, and so it was B-luscious' first day at the beach!
Ah, so cute. ♥
A happy birthday it was for me indeed. ☺
