this blog is dedicated to Rachel my beloved siamese sister. well, we're not really, but we might as well have been conjoined by the brain. we have the same taste in almost EVERYTHING!!! i kid you not...and we've been reunited for the first time this year! why yes i am gushing over her, because she is awesome like me, so that makes her doubly awesome. harharhar, just kidding about my awesome-ality, but she really is one cool chick. she is the only one who has been egging me on to write here. and after another mini hibernation, here i am! yes, yes, same ole story, i have been drowning in school work. but being the masochist i am, on top of being a full time student and mother, i took on the extra burden of enrolling in cake classes too. so now i'm going to take the time and try to catch up on my posting!
so first! i must talk about the first treasure! Rachel and i went vintage shopping the other day...and let's just say...we've discovered a wonderful place that is brimming to the top with beautimous finds!!! we ooh-ed and ah-ed and were exclaiming with glee over all these GORGEOUS gowns we found from the 40's...*BIG SIGH* so in love...we had wandered over to a rack stuck all the way in the back where the gal working there said these gowns were being saved for a photoshoot, but she let us peruse and try them on to our heart's delight! and let's just say, i bought one. ok, i did. but i got this for a really handsome deal for what it is... i nearly died, and cried for that matter. it fit me perfectly...and i felt so very Grace Kelly... there were plenty of gowns there to fawn over as well. there was a little black cocktail dress a la Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's—a black boatneck dress, that has inspired me to go take sewing classes! it has been put off for far too long! anyway, here is the dress i got my hands on!!! don't judge me!!! i was smitten ok??!?!?!? aaaaahhhhhh!!!
i love, i love, i love...
on another topic, Christmas is coming up and our church's college group will be hosting our annual Christmas Gala. but this year is especially exciting because...drumroll please...cuz ladies and gents! it's gonna be a masquerade ball!!!!!! WAAAAAHHHOOOOOOO!!! totally right up my alley!! so as is customary (for me anyway), i have to dress the part!! so i've sent off for a dress to be custom-made for the ball—which i'm anticipating for it's receipt in excitement!! here is a picture of the combination i requested:
it would be the dress on the left with sleeves like Kirsten Dunst from the movie "Marie Antoinette."
i am so ex-SMITED!!! oh, and totally go to COSPLAY007's eBay shop where their store is full of Gothic Lolita fashion! they're the ones that are doing my dress, and for an affordable price! yes!
so i am currently brainstorming furiously for the decor for the ball. PURPLE is HAWT. i am so into purple right now! so much so, that i'm inspired to be Willy Wonka next Halloween (Gene Wilder style) with his uber-awesome purple velvet coat! you're hearing it here! purple is the "new black" right now. anyway, the color scheme (the only information that i will disclose about the decor at all!) will be purple and gold. very regal, very renaissance-y...speaking of renaissance, here's a picture of me at the Renaissance Faire a few weeks ago. quite awesome...can't wait for next year's!
so, another dress I've sent off for to be made is this one :
teehee, a drawing i did and painted on with watercolor. believe it or not, i'm really no Bob Ross...
PRESSING ON to projects i've been working on! romance is in the air!
first off is a reception invitation i made for my friend Amy. it was printed on recycled paper to give it a really earthy feel, since she was going to have an outdoor soiree. :)
here is a sneak peek at my friend Miki's wedding invitation. i'm not going to expose the whole thing just because she hasn't sent out the invites yet. this is the caricature of her and her hubby along with a Bible verse that i hand wrote. :P
here is a little mock save-the-date i gave to my friend Mei for fun. though she really is engaged. the picture is from a little photoshoot i did with them so i can gift them with something later on...ssshhh!! it's a suprise! i'm not even spose to talk about it! i don't even know what my surprise is! hehehehe
then here are my two first ever frosted cakes. frosting made from scratch, they're obviously not "Ace of Cakes" status, but i'm a newbie, so cut me some slack! hahaha
and for the grand finale, here is one of my recent cakes. my first fondant cake! yes! progress was made!! muahahahahaha!
as i leave you guys once again, here is a song i am just dying over...the song at the end credits (always saved best for last) for the movie Young Victoria, "Only Love" by Sinead O'Connor... LOVE!!!!
press to play!
